Audit Semi-Senior – Banbury

Garry Howling Recruitment is recruiting an Audit Semi-Senior for a full-time opportunity in Banbury.

This role will suit an ACA or ACCA-qualified accountant with recent audit and accounts experience gained within an accountancy practice, including experience leading assignments and supervising junior colleagues.

You’ll plan, lead and complete audit assignments while supporting Managers and Partners across audit, statutory accounts, compliance and related advisory matters.

The Role

You’ll take responsibility for audit assignments from planning through to completion, ensuring work meets professional standards and is delivered efficiently against agreed budgets and deadlines.

The role includes preparing audit files, working papers and statutory accounts, identifying audit risks and technical matters, and liaising directly with clients throughout assignments.

You’ll also coach trainees, review their work and identify technical or commercial points for Managers and Partners to raise with clients.

Responsibilities

• Plan, complete and supervise audit assignments.
• Deliver assignments at client sites or remotely where required.
• Identify audit risks, technical issues and key completion points.
• Escalate significant matters to Managers and Partners.
• Prepare audit files and working papers.
• Prepare statutory accounts and completion documentation.
• Support higher-level audit, accounts and compliance work.
• Liaise directly with clients throughout assignments.
• Obtain and assess relevant audit and accounts information.
• Monitor assignment quality, budgets and deadlines.
• Record chargeable time accurately.
• Support appropriate recovery levels.
• Coach and supervise trainees.
• Review junior colleagues’ work.
• Identify opportunities for additional services and added-value advice.
• Finalise documentation for clients and HMRC.
• Manage ad-hoc assignments and projects.
• Maintain technical knowledge through training and CPD.

About You

You’ll need:

• ACA or ACCA qualification.
• Recent audit and accounts experience within an accountancy practice.
• Experience leading audit assignments.
• Experience supervising junior staff.
• Strong knowledge of UK auditing standards and audit methodology.
• Good knowledge of financial reporting and accounts preparation.
• Working knowledge of Corporation Tax and VAT.
• Strong audit-planning skills.
• Good analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Excellent organisation and time management.
• A professional, proactive and client-focused approach.

Experience with Inflo, MWP, Xero or similar audit and cloud-accounting software would be advantageous rather than essential.
