Internal Audit Manager – Ipswich
Ipswich | £48,000–£58,000 | Hybrid
Garry Howling Recruitment is recruiting an Internal Audit Manager for a full-time opportunity in Ipswich.
This role will suit either an experienced Internal Audit Manager looking for a fresh challenge or an ambitious Senior Auditor ready to step into broader management responsibility.
With hybrid working confirmed, you’ll act as the lead contact for a portfolio of clients and manage risk-based internal audits from initial planning through to final reporting. Your work will span a varied client base, including not-for-profit organisations and commercial businesses.
The Role
You’ll take responsibility for planning and delivering internal audit assignments, reviewing files and reports and ensuring recommendations provide clear value to clients.
A significant part of the role involves senior stakeholder communication. You’ll present findings and opinions to senior management and Audit Committees, while maintaining strong day-to-day client relationships.
You’ll also supervise and develop other auditors, contribute to tenders and client meetings and help shape the continued development of the wider Risk & Assurance service.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary day-to-day contact for a portfolio of internal audit clients.
- Plan and manage risk-based internal audit programmes.
- Lead assignments from planning through to reporting.
- Assess controls, risks and operational processes.
- Prepare clear findings and practical recommendations.
- Present audit findings and opinions to senior management.
- Present to Audit Committees where required.
- Review audit files and reports for quality and consistency.
- Ensure assignments deliver practical value for clients.
- Supervise auditors during engagements.
- Coach and support colleagues in their development.
- Manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines.
- Contribute to tenders, proposals and client meetings.
- Support wider business-development activity.
- Work closely with senior Risk & Assurance leaders.
- Contribute ideas to the continued development of the service offering.
About You
You’ll need:
- At least three years’ internal audit experience.
- Experience leading internal audit assignments.
- Experience supervising or supporting other auditors.
- Confidence presenting audit findings to senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and organisational skills.
- The ability to manage multiple assignments effectively.
- Strong client relationship and communication skills.
The role supports several professional routes. You may:
- Hold or be working towards CMIIA;
- Be ACA or ACCA qualified; or
- Bring suitable qualified-by-experience credentials.
Experience within areas such as not-for-profit, education, social housing, NHS or outsourced internal audit would be particularly relevant, but the wording of the JD presents these as preferred background rather than an absolute requirement.
You’ll also need to be prepared to travel to client sites across London and the South East and have access to your own transport when required.
What’s on Offer
- Hybrid working.
- Ownership of a varied internal audit client portfolio.
- Risk-based audit work from planning through to reporting.
- Exposure to senior management and Audit Committees.
- Experience across commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
- Auditor supervision and coaching responsibility.
- Business-development exposure.
- The opportunity to influence the continued development of the Risk & Assurance service.
Why Consider This Role?
This position offers more than simply delivering individual internal audit assignments.
You’ll own client relationships, lead engagements, present directly to senior decision-makers and help develop both junior colleagues and the wider service.
It could therefore work particularly well for a strong Senior Auditor ready for their first formal Manager role, as well as an established Internal Audit Manager seeking broader client and commercial responsibility.
