Senior Tax Manager – Leeds
Leeds | £63,000–£73,000 | Hybrid
Garry Howling Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Senior Tax Manager for a specialist Trusts opportunity in Leeds.
This is a rare role for a tax professional who wants genuine ownership of a specialist service area rather than simply managing an established portfolio.
With hybrid working confirmed, you’ll become a central point of expertise for trusts work, initially reviewing existing processes and strengthening compliance frameworks before helping develop and expand the wider trusts capability.
The Opportunity
You’ll take responsibility for shaping how trusts work is approached across the wider tax team.
Your early focus will be on ensuring strong foundations are in place — reviewing current processes, strengthening compliance and embedding consistent best practice.
From there, you’ll have scope to identify new opportunities, develop the client offering and help grow the trusts specialism across the business.
Alongside this strategic responsibility, you’ll manage a varied client portfolio, build trusted relationships, mentor junior colleagues and collaborate with other service lines to deliver broader solutions.
Responsibilities
- Act as a central technical specialist for trusts.
- Take ownership of the trusts offering.
- Review existing trusts processes and procedures.
- Strengthen compliance frameworks.
- Embed best practice across the wider tax team.
- Manage a portfolio of trusts clients.
- Build strong and lasting client relationships.
- Identify opportunities to expand the trusts offering.
- Support the development of new client opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across other service lines.
- Mentor and develop junior colleagues.
- Contribute to wider practice development.
- Support networking and external relationship-building.
- Produce or contribute to thought-leadership activity.
- Represent the practice at relevant industry events.
- Challenge existing approaches and drive positive change where appropriate.
About You
You’ll need:
- CTA qualification with a specialist focus in Trusts.
- Strong technical trusts knowledge.
- The ability to work both operationally and strategically.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent stakeholder-management capability.
- Confidence managing client relationships.
- The ability to influence colleagues and drive improvements.
- A proactive approach to service development and growth.
STEP certification would be advantageous, but it is not stated as essential.
What’s on Offer
- £63,000–£73,000 salary confirmed in the supplied role information.
- Hybrid working.
- Genuine ownership of a specialist trusts offering.
- Scope to shape processes and compliance frameworks.
- Freedom to develop and grow the service line.
- Portfolio and client relationship responsibility.
- Junior mentoring and team-development exposure.
- Cross-service collaboration.
- Networking, thought leadership and industry-event opportunities.
- The chance to establish yourself as the go-to trusts specialist across a substantial tax team.
Why Consider This Role?
The strongest feature of this opportunity is the level of ownership and influence.
You won’t simply inherit an established trusts portfolio and maintain it. You’ll be expected to strengthen the foundations, improve how the work is delivered and then help shape how the service develops.
For an experienced trusts specialist who wants a Senior Manager role combining technical depth with strategic responsibility, this offers a particularly distinctive next step.
