Tax Manager – Stoke-on-Trent

Stoke-on-Trent | £55,000–£65,000 | Fully Remote

Garry Howling Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Tax Manager for a full-time, fully remote tax advisory opportunity.

This is a technically focused role for a CTA-qualified tax professional with post-qualification advisory experience who wants to work closely with a Tax Director across complex private client and corporate tax projects.

You’ll play a hands-on role throughout the advisory process, from technical research and planning through to drafting detailed written advice and helping drive projects towards completion. The client base includes owner-managed businesses, high-net-worth individuals, private clients and corporate groups.

The Opportunity

You’ll act as a trusted right hand to the Tax Director, helping manage workflow while delivering high-quality tax advisory assignments.

The role can suit someone with broad experience across both personal and corporate tax, or a stronger specialism within either private client advisory or corporate tax advisory, provided you bring strong technical expertise and proven advisory experience.

Projects may include tax planning for OMBs and their owners, inheritance and Capital Gains Tax planning, income extraction, corporate restructures, share schemes, remuneration planning and other complex advisory matters.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Tax Director with the preparation and delivery of complex tax advice.
  • Take an active role in the end-to-end delivery of advisory projects.
  • Draft clear, technically accurate and commercially relevant tax advice reports.
  • Undertake technical research and apply findings to client circumstances.
  • Assist with tax planning and restructuring projects for owner-managed businesses and their owners.
  • Advise on private client matters including IHT, CGT and income extraction planning where relevant.
  • Support corporate tax planning and restructuring assignments where relevant.
  • Assist with areas including share schemes, remuneration planning, group restructures, purchase of own shares and demergers where your experience supports this.
  • Liaise with clients and internal teams to gather information and maintain project momentum.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for colleagues across other departments.
  • Contribute to internal tax knowledge and best-practice development.
  • Assist with complex compliance, disclosure work and HMRC enquiries where required.

About You

You’ll need:

  • CTA qualification – essential.
  • Post-qualification experience in a tax advisory role.
  • Proven experience writing high-quality tax advisory reports.
  • Excellent understanding of UK tax legislation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience advising owner-managed businesses on personal and corporate matters, or a strong private client or corporate advisory background.
  • Strong technical knowledge and excellent attention to detail.
  • Good organisation and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to advisory delivery.

The role is intentionally broad. You do not need to have covered every listed corporate and private client area, but you should bring demonstrable depth within relevant advisory work.

What’s on Offer

  • Fully remote working.
  • Direct exposure to complex tax advisory projects.
  • Close working relationship with the Tax Director.
  • Broad exposure to OMB, private client and corporate tax matters.
  • Significant involvement in technical research and written advisory work.
  • The opportunity to act as a technical resource to colleagues across the wider practice.
  • A role centred on advisory delivery rather than routine compliance.

Why Consider This Role?

This position should appeal to a Tax Manager who enjoys the technical and intellectual side of advisory work and wants substantial involvement in complex assignments.

Rather than simply reviewing work prepared by others, you’ll be directly involved in researching issues, shaping planning recommendations, drafting advice and helping move projects forward.

The fully remote structure also makes the opportunity accessible to experienced CTA-qualified advisers beyond the immediate Stoke-on-Trent area while retaining a defined regional base.

Apply in Confidence

If you’re a CTA-qualified Tax Manager with strong advisory experience and are considering a fully remote opportunity, contact Garry Howling Recruitment for a confidential conversation.
